Yin yoga postures are primarily passive in nature and are held longer than traditional poses to facilitate the healing and restoration of tendons, ligaments, and fascia. Postures are primarily focused on less flexible and less mobile areas of the body like the hips, shoulders, and back to allow for a release of tension and stiffness. Yin yoga is suitable for all levels and especially wonderful for beginners, athletes, or as a complement to a more vigorous yoga practice.
